Why did God create humans?
This critical question sends the human Christian in whatever direction they conclude on the matter. Indeed, most thinking on the subject concludes we are here to save souls and wait for heaven. But from the perspective of the garden of Eden neither one of those make sense. God didn’t make us to be saved. And he didn’t make us for a place he hadn’t placed us into. So why did God create humans?
The reason this matters is because it will affect our goal in life. It will change how we operate and what we consider as important. Finally, it will affect how we view the end of the age. The end of the age of humans will not end until the purpose for humans is completed. Should God end this age if he didn’t accomplish what he set out to do? So what did he set out to accomplish?
“and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,”
Ephesians 3:9-11.
God set out to accomplish the display of his wisdom through a human vessel called church. Don’t confuse wisdom with displays of power. Don’t confuse wisdom with displays of knowledge. Don’t confuse wisdom with displays of service. Don’t confuse wisdom with what we are doing right now in the churches of man. What God is after will display his manifold wisdom by life. For life is the premier quality of God. He is the self existent one. We are not. His nature and qualities are partially on display through creation, but not the qualities that are less displayable by power. Such qualities as he wants displayed are shown through the life of the church. Wisdom then is the display of God’s rich qualities as bound up in Christ, the fullness of God. And God’s plan is to have the Son who is full to fill all things, that is, all beings that can be filled on some level as we ourselves are fillable. And so his life is fully shared and fully known among the entirety of his heavenly beings, by means of the church. That is Ephesians.
The day we are walking into will now complete the display of God through a people. A people who choose to no longer display themselves but now would show the wisdom of God. This is what is lacking but will lack no longer. The question God has for us is “who will walk worthy of the calling?” Eph 4:1. Such ones will be the reason the age ends. Such humans who desire to complete the purpose of God in their body as a living sacrifice can display the will of God, the good, pleasing and perfect will. Then and only then can the age end because the reason it began has been completed. This is our eternal purpose in Christ Jesus.
