“…this is according to the eternal purpose…”
Ephesians 3:11.
The common lingo of a group tells you about the collective consciousness of that group. Probably the most common answer to the question of why we were made is, God loved us. God wanted children. God wants his glory.
Probably the most common answer to the question of where we are going is God wants to be glorified in us. God wants to be glorified through us. God wants worshipers. But the most common answer is silence.
Purpose. It might be the most important element for existence. We can say this because it is completely foolish to say that God acts randomly. It is an insult to say that God acts without purpose. It is also defamatory to claim that God is keeping the purpose back from us. Of course he can’t tell us everything he has in mind because that would take an eternity. But to claim that he has given us no indicators of directives is also really silly.
What is your purpose for a day? If your and my purpose for a day is not in alignment with God‘s purpose for the earth rotating one time then we are out of alignment with God. God created the Earth to rotate for a reason. And as long as we’re on the Earth rotating for a 24 hour period our reason for being matters. God did not create humanity as a complex potted plant. He created potted plants. We are not for that purpose.
By robbing Christianity of purpose, the devil has cut loose this ship from its rudder. We now wander around either in the Bible, or in our souls validating our reason for why we spend a day the way we do. This aimlessness does not serve God, and is a very clever technique in detaching us from our creator and his creativity with purpose.
Recapturing purpose, then, becomes a critical element of the end of the age. If the age will end, it must close off the reason it began. There is a reason the age began, and that reason must be fulfilled for the age to end. This is the purposefulness of God who invented the word purpose. He wrote it in his book. He taught on it in scripture. And here at the end of all things, he would see his purpose be no longer mysterious, but a high heavenly calling, which is already in effect, in force, and in process.
