This time God is skipping the outward

by Daniel Mastrolonardo

“that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭

Many previous moves of God had great signs and wonders. There were gems and dust, clouds, and miracles. But the outward remained the fantasy of the saints, and they would not move inward. The outward spectacle is a sign which we are to follow as all signs point in another direction. By not moving inward, the opportunity that was truly afforded was missed.

It is in Luke 17 that we read that the kingdom of God is going to come without outward signs because the kingdom of God is within you. Similar to the 1970s when close to 3 million hippies became Christians, there was no single outward dynamic. Everyone just suddenly started to love Jesus. Similarly, here at the end of the age, the work that God is truly doing will be an inward work of deep love and sanctification toward Christ. There may be outward here and there, but it is not important or required for the inward. This is what has tripped up our faith for a very long time. We believe that the outward verifies the inward. But actually, it’s the inward that is eternal and independent of the outward. And so it can stand on its own. This is why so many different faith traditions can have valid bride in them even though they do not seek the signs.

If we would see God get what he deserves, we would be like John the Baptist. He never did a single sign or wonder, and he was the greatest prophet among men. He just wanted people to be inwardly ready for their Lord. And through the power of the Spirit and deep repentance we too can be fully ready to be presented naked before him with whom we have to do.
