Suppose you walk up to a beautiful building. You enter in by faith, and in the middle of it is an elevator. A great glass elevator. There are people everywhere. People as far as the eye can see. The bell man is none other than Jesus Christ himself. He’s in control of the elevator. His warm gaze is inviting and you get into the elevator with so many others. You don’t know how many floors this building has. It only has an up button and a down button. The elevator goes up a certain ways, there’s a ding, and the door opens, you can see most of the floor. It’s large, there are many people, you can tell it is an important floor. Some people get off. You remain curious so you stay inside. It goes up another certain ways you pass some floors that seem interesting and important then you stop at another floor. There’s a ding, the door opens, some more people get off. Some people get on. Around this room, you can see various things like Good works, behaviors, the walk. The people who want to get back on the elevator have gotten on, so Jesus pushes the up button and away you go. A short distance later there’s a ding and again there’s an exchange of people and yet another important floor. This one is filled with critical things, and it even has a large sign that says the written word. There are so many people here. Many people leave the elevator. A few get back on. The exchange is complete and you’re still very curious as to why Jesus hasn’t gotten off yet. So up you go again. This time some more time passes and you start to get a sense of the bellhop. He seems very content in the elevator. He seems to like his job. You’ve begin asking him questions and find the dialogue invigorating. An unknown amount of time passes and you have traversed an unknown amount of stories. There’s another ding and this time you can see you’re very high up. Whatever floor this is it has very few people on it. Some more people get off another few get back on. Jesus stays on. The pull to get off is immense because the view from this height is incredible. Glass everywhere lets you see intensely far away. The beauty of what you can see is amazing, and it has very powerful descriptors of things that this floor is defined as. Questions and curiosities that have played in your mind for years are answered here. But Jesus doesn’t get off. There’s only a few people left in the elevator. Jesus asks up or down. It is at this point that you begin to understand the difference between the building and the elevator. it is now that you begin to understand that the bell hop handling the elevator knows each floor intimately. He’s happy to discuss every element of every floor and its exquisite details. There’s nothing wrong with getting off and looking around but suddenly you realize how wrong it is to never get back on the elevator. And then you realize, this elevator never stops going up. And each floor has been a test to see how long people will linger and find satisfaction in the things of the building. You suddenly feel incredibly blessed that something kept you on the elevator with the man of the building. And a small vow rises in your heart to never get off the elevator. The man will bring you everything the building has, and you’ll never ever miss anything all the way up.
