The delusion of the end of the age

by Daniel Mastrolonardo

2 Thessalonians 2

“3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction…

11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.”

What do you call it when someone tells you things you want to be true and believe that, but you refuse to hear the rest of what they’re saying that is nothing but raw evil? I can tell you the biblical phrase for this at the end of the age: strong delusion. The reason that strong delusion will work on the church is because some of what will be saying that day will be true, valid, valuable, and good. There is a beautiful side to evil. But the same ones who agree with the goodness coming out of the mouth of Babylon and the beast will simultaneously ignore the other words coming out, and will justify the evil words by looking at the good words.

The reason the church will apostasize at the end of the age will be in part because these ones will believe that the great purpose of God is to prevent climate change, to control the population from expanding too far, to avoid pollution, to spread wealth to the poor by taking it from those who have, and a myriad of other wonderful sounding goals. Meanwhile, the church will not read their websites, will not listen to their other words, and will not consider the lives of the leaders who will make this wonderful movement happen. And so that portion of the church will be fully responsible for their own destruction because they were, in a word, naïve. It is as my grandpa in law would say, you must do your due diligence before you make your investment. I am afraid that researching the words of smart people has fallen on hard times, and will only fall harder before he who is Truth will rise up to speak judgment on all those who believed the deluding influence and fell away from the faith.  May we ourselves be of more lasting substance in Christ.
