Lead like a sheep vs pulling like a poodle

by Daniel Mastrolonardo

“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

Judges 21:25

How much of our life journey was the plan of God, and how much if it was our own will driving our lives? And what happens if we look back after driving and interpret it as the plan of God? This is the difference of the body of Christ versus every man doing what is right in his own eyes.

The body of Christ responds in submission to the head. It can rest for a thousand years and never need to move. Or it can move and never need to rest. It is one with a man who is infinite and eternal. Time and energy mean nothing to him.

How much of our story was the body impelled by the head, and how much was our doing what was right? This question is not for undermining our relationship with God, this question is about getting to the heart of the relationship with God. If I interpret my life with some satisfaction and claim that the whole thing was the will of God I will end up justifying myself at many points. And it is precisely this self justification which needs dealt with. The end of the age will be the display of the manifold wisdom of God through the church. It will be an era of displaying not the will of man, but the nature of God. Precision guidance will define the body in that day, and not God accommodating to the will of man in any amount.

Closing out the day will require the culmination of the body of Christ in the head and his thought. His full thought, untarnished as it flows like life through a vine and branch. This flow of life will define the body as one with the head. Life defines the Man of heaven. And it will define the people of the Man before the end.
