“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28
Breaking God’s people of fear is a needed task for Him. Fear of the government. Fear of economic uncertainty or strangleholds. Fear of man. Fear of evil.
The answer to these fears is coming into the awareness of the fear of the Lord. Encountering the fear of the Lord gives the saint something to truly be respectful and mindful of: the Lord. If the kings and rulers and evil people were smart they would likewise fear the Lord and behave accordingly. But their blindness gives them self confidence, which will be their undoing.
Our fear of the Lord is necessary. In order to be balanced perhaps this will help: love being close to him, fear being far.
By living with the consuming fire and becoming one with Him in reality we can resist the urges and controls that fear weighs on us. We are meant to be free from fear. And as Jesus and angels often told the saints: do not fear. “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid, believe in God, believe also in me.”
