“and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 5:10
The priesthood is not confused about their calling or their assignment for the day. Their requirements for a job well done. Their burden is not diverse or complicated. They wake every day to the same thing: morning offerings. They end every day with the same thing: evening offering. They labor to please the Lord in their quality of life and their attention to detail in ministering to the Lord. Their care and carefulness is to reassure God that on the earth there are people who will listen to him and obey him. Such act will ensure that salt is preserving this planet from the destruction and flame it rightly deserves. Without the priests, the people wander. And if the people wander and there are no priests, judgment falls without relenting.
The calling of the priesthood is a burden. It is a weight. The weight of the Lord. The weight of the Lord and the requirement of a relationship with him first and primarily weighs on the heart and mind of the priest and defines their day, their life and their children’s lives. Their house knows they exist for ministering to the Lord. They please him first by quality of life and service to Him.
Serving the people is only possible if service to the Lord has occurred. Service to the people without service to the Lord is not priesthood. It is occult. It is a culture against the Lord. The only priests God wants ministering to his people are the ones who minister to him. If a priest ministers to the Lord they may be called to minister to the people. But no one will minister to the people who has not submitted to the weight and burden of ministering to the Lord. Therefore learning the priestly duties of serving God in his house precede the duty of ministering to the people. They are not equal, they are not the same. They are not to be confused. God is not confused if his priest won’t come to his house and minister to him. God knows such a priest will mislead the people.
The true new covenant priesthood spoken of by Peter and Hebrews is seen in this: Christ the gate. Christ the offering on the altar. Christ the washing of water. Christ the door. Christ the bread and wine. Christ the light. Christ the incense that pleases the Father. Christ the high priest. Christ the King. Christ the living God.
It is this Way in which the priest walks. Hence the early believers were not called Christians but “followers of the Way.” Recovering the priesthood will require defining all things after Christ and limiting ourselves to just the way which is himself.
