Moving from “I am pleasing to God” to “we are pleasing to God.”

by Daniel Mastrolonardo

“According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭

“Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me…”

Hebrews  10:5

The church of the future will be very concerned about their corporate representation before God.

So much of the individualism of our society hold power over our view of relating to God. Yes, there is an individual component to relating to God, but it is not the final expression of our relationship to God. The corporate is his vision even if it isn’t ours.

Corporation has the root word of corpse, or, body. Incorporating is to give a group of individuals a single entity or body by which to conduct business. The corporate church is the body of the Christians who choose to become one body not many. It is firstly a choice, secondly a submission, but finally it is a work only of God with submitted members. No human will get the credit for building the corporate body, but that doesn’t mean there are not Pauls on the earth who have the building ministry of 1 Cor 3.

Becoming the corporate body which pleases God begins with allowing the full work of God in me as an individual. The stones of the house are prepared outside the city in the quarry. We ought to be receiving the full work of God now and then opening up ourselves for his assembly. He will assemble when the stones are ready, no worries about that. He is eager to have a body prepared for His Son, a bride for his Son and a house for his Spirit. May we desire the thing God desires so he can get what pleases him.
