“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22.
The calling on the saint is to be built into the dwelling of God in the Spirit. The saint is to be a holy temple in the Lord. They are to be (be) a sanctified space for the dwelling of God. The saint is in process of being (being) built together with other saints to then form a holy temple in the Lord, after being (being) fitted together by Him for the dwelling of God in the Spirit. The apostles and prophets do the building work, and the are themselves the first row of saints because they are the standard, model, and “straight line” upon which we are to pattern our lives after and therefore become (become) a pleasing building for the Lord’s dwelling. This group of people are the household of God from which Jews and Gentiles are assembled together, without separation of any kind, so that God can inhabit a living tabernacle of skin and mobility. Notice all the references to being in this and the last post? Where then is the doing unto our great calling? The calling is so great that none but God can do it with only submitted stones to work with. We must walk worthy of it and not defile ourselves (2 Cor. 7:1) but the actual assembly is His and His alone. It is a house not made with human hands. Clammy, glory-seeking, big-name, money grubbing, fame hungry human hands. Not one of those hands will be glorified on this building.
What are we to say to this calling? “Do whatever it takes to build me with others into the dwelling of God in the Spirit.”
